IBEW 220 Veterans Committee

VISION STATEMENT

The IBEW Veterans Committee serves all those who have served, building community and strengthening veteran voices within the IBEW and throughout the entire electrical industry.

MISSION STATEMENT

Established to mentor all veterans and bring veterans’ issues to the forefront of the IBEW. The efforts of this committee bring together the house of labor, the veteran community at large, IBEW members who are veterans, and local union leadership to improve lives in the community and livelihoods of the IBEW workforce. The IBEW 220 Veterans Committee seeks to facilitate and connect with community organizations to recruit and promote the hiring of veterans within the electrical industry. Local union committees can provide the means for educational and social activities to strengthen the connections between military veteran IBEW members, encourage committee members to be more fully informed about economic and political issues that affect them, and foster their relationships with established union members and local union leadership.

IBEW 220 Women's Committee

Women have always played an important role in the labor movement. Their participation and leadership at all levels is important. Women help build a diverse and healthy union by going outside the union hall and into communities, taking part in town hall meetings, political campaigns, organizing campaigns, community service projects, and more. They fulfill a unique role by bringing a greater understanding of gender issues to our local unions.

The IBEW Women’s Committee is committed to increasing the participation of women in every aspect of the union, including apprenticeship training, mentoring, leadership, and union, community and political activism. The committee strives to achieve the following:

  • To encourage, educate and uplift our female sisters to take on activist and leadership roles within their communities and the IBEW.
  • To educate and inform our industry on issues related to gender equality, gender opportunity and gender discrimination.
  • To assist in the development of mentoring programs, formal and informal, that support women’s leadership and promote gender opportunity.
  • To assist in the establishment of programs and educational materials to further educate our members and employers on diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
  • To aid in the elimination of sexual harassment, violence against women, sexual discrimination, and exploitation in IBEW union halls and workplaces.
  • To advocate for employment equity and civil, human and women’s rights.
